The Beginning of Raymond Nelson Insurance
The story of Raymond Nelson Insurance begins long before the agency officially opened its doors.
Mr. Raymond Nelson entered the insurance industry on October 11, 1965, when he joined Life and Casualty Insurance Company of Tennessee. Earning just $75 a week, he spent the next decade traveling door-to-door, selling life insurance throughout the region.
Those early years helped shape the foundation of his career. Long days on the road taught him the importance of perseverance, personal relationships, and truly serving people during important moments in their lives.
After co-founding Nelson-Hale Insurance Agency in 1975, Raymond eventually decided to take another leap of faith. In 1981, he officially opened Raymond Nelson Insurance on Country Club Lane in Hopkinsville, Kentucky.
On that first day, he had no customers.
Armed with determination and a phone book, Raymond began calling everyone he knew. One relationship at a time, the business slowly began to grow.
Growing Through Hard Work and Dedication
Over the years, Raymond Nelson Insurance earned a reputation for dependable service, strong relationships, and going above and beyond for clients.
The agency initially found its niche in trucking and transportation insurance, an area that remains an important part of the business today. As the company continued to grow, so did its services, team, and reach.
What started as a small office with just a few employees eventually expanded into a full-service insurance agency offering:

In 2011, Raymond Nelson Insurance expanded again through the acquisition of J.G. Keown Insurance Agency, strengthening the agency’s ability to serve even more clients and industries.
Today, Raymond Nelson Insurance proudly serves clients across more than 25 states with a dedicated team of professionals committed to continuing the agency’s legacy of service.
